Dr Alex Biss

Alex is a viticultural geographer and climate scientist, and the Founder and Director of Vineyard Check. He has published several research papers in leading viticulture journals, been featured by broadcast and print media across Europe on viticulture-related topics, and served as a reviewer for Scientific Reports and PLOS One.

 

Alex holds a PhD in Crop Sciences (specialising in cool climate viticulture), an MSc with Distinction in Geographical Information Systems, and an MPhil in Polar Studies from the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, where he researched sedimentology and climate change of the last 10,000 years. He has previously worked as a technician in a soils laboratory and as a tutor to physical geography undergraduates, and has been involved in several environmental research projects, including an investigation into heavy metal contamination of soils near a disused lead and silver mine.
